Dear God, on this day, 25 years ago, almost 3,000 people died, on a day they thought that would be a normal day, some going to work, some traveling, not one of them knew they wouldn’t return home to their families.
Dear Father don’t let us forget what happened that day Why does it take a tragedy to get our attention? We are a people that puts idols before you, whether that is our phones in our pockets, or our families, or our work, or sports, or hunting, and fishing, or you name it, insert your gods with a little g in the blank. We all have them and you are a jealous God (Exodus 20:5) albeit a righteous jealousy, you don’t want to compete with our idols for attention, and you shouldn’t.
God, we returned to you for a while after you got our attention, but we have turned away from you again, and again, forgive us.
We live in an evil world, where we can find distractions everywhere. The devil wants to distract us from you and is doing a very good job of it. Forgive us and protect us from the devil.
Dear God, we are in a spiritual battle, and the devil is not hiding in the bushes anymore, he is out in the open, just watch the news, like the Lindsay Clancey trial. Thank you, God, for that one juror that stood up for what was right, but what is scary God, is that it was just one juror. God, have we forgotten your commandments? Yes, we have. The first one says, “You shall have no other Gods before me” (Exodus 20:3 And number 6 says “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13).
But God you also say in 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” I pray that we would indeed humble ourselves, and pray and seek your face, and turn from our wicked ways so that you will hear our prayers and forgive our sins and heal our land.
Help us Dear God, help us. In Jesus precious and mighty name, Amen.
